Deaf Poker Australia: Special Online Tournament on Sunday, March 6 @ 7.30pm AEDT2011 02 19
12:33 pm
Hi all,

As you may know, as well as writing and reporting for the good people here at PNW, I'm also working with the non-profit organisation Deaf Poker Australia as their Tournament Director.

You might have also seen that we've recently set up DPA Online, our club in the PokerStars Home Game network. We host regular games on Sunday nights, including our play-money DPA Online Series, which is the first of two 10-week seasons where the winner will be staked by the DPA into the Australian Deaf Poker Championship at the Adelaide Casino later this year.

On Sunday, March the 6th, 2011, the DPA Online Series is on a "rest week", but we are hosting a special DPA Online tournament and we'd like to invite a select few within the elite poker community to participate as our special guests.

It's a small $2 buy-in, but it's a 5000 start bank six-max NLHE tournament which will run for approximately 3-3.5 hours. The idea is that we want to introduce our players to the concept of real-money games and at the same time, create a Skype chat "forum" to have you and our players discuss poker and create awareness in the Hearing community about our work.

If you are willing to donate your time (and $2) on Sunday, March the 6th, please PM me for more details. Alternatively, if you already have me on Facebook or Skype, please contact me via those methods. In the meantime, you can check out our website (www.deafpoker.com.au) or find our official page on Facebook.

Thanks again and hope to see you on the virtual felt soon!

Yours sincerely,
Landon Blackhall

Hi all,

As some of you may know, as well as my writing and reporting duties with PokerNetwork and PokerNews, I am also the Editorial Co-ordinator for the APL magazine, Shuffle.

I'm currently working on the latest issue and I have one more article to complete (due Sunday night). Recently, there was a thread on the APL Facebook page that started after it was reported that a player had allegedly folded pocket aces preflop at the closing stages of one of the Day 1 flights of the APL Poker Tour event in Melbourne. While in fact that the player in question had actually folded A-K, it still caused quite a stir, even on the PNW forums:

http://www.pokernetwork.com/forums/m...-pre-flop.html

But I digress - what I'm looking for is contributions from the regulars here on the PNW forum to advise on the way you should play pocket aces, specifically:

1. Is there any justification to fold pocket aces before the flop? If yes/no, why/why not?

2. How should you play pocket aces preflop and should there be any changes depending on the situation, e.g. short-handed, heads-up, three-bet/four-bet in front, etc. (Provide examples)

3. How should you play them post-flop, after the turn and after the river (depending on the board)?

4. What examples can you give of good play with pocket aces?

5. What examples can you give of a good laydown with pocket aces?

Normally, I would post such a thread in the Hand Discussion section, but in order to obtain as much information as possible, I have taken the liberty to post this in the Main Noticeboard.

The purpose of this article is to educate as well as entertain and as such, much of the information posted in this thread will be used in the article. If you do wish to be mentioned by name as a contributor, please let me know.

Naturally, any inappropriate comments will be dealt with by the moderators in accordance with the PNW forum rules.

Should you have any queries or concerns, don't hesitate to PM me. I'm looking forward to seeing what this thread has to offer and I thank you all in advance for taking the time to contribute to this article.

Sincerely,
Lando
2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championships, October 8-9, Melbourne2010 10 04

Hi all,

Six months ago I wrote a story for PokerNetwork about the 2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championships being held in Melbourne this year.

Well, the final preparations are in full swing and we're only five days away from the Main Event! It's been 12 months in the making, but we've had incredible support from the elite poker community and deaf community alike.

In fact, we're delighted to announce that Deaf Australia, in association with the Victorian Council of the Deaf, has made this tournament an official part of the National Week of Deaf People, which starts this Friday.

As a result, this has generated unprecedented interest from around the country. Last year's inaugural Australian Deaf Poker Championship in Sydney saw 88 players take to the felt; this record is well on the way to being shattered in 2010.

Of course, most of the PNW Nation are down in Melbourne for the ANZPT event, but I'd like to extend an invitation on behalf of Deaf Poker Australia to you to come down and join us for a brew at our Welcome Night this Friday from 7.30pm.

Both the Welcome Night and the Main Event are at The Local in Port Melbourne. The Main Event starts on Saturday from 2pm and is open only to deaf and hard-of-hearing players, but we are also running open freeroll single-table SNG's for bonus prizes on demand. We'd be delighted to have a few pros make an appearance and play a hand or two!

Finally, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the founder of Deaf Poker Australia, Sokong Kim, for giving me the chance to take on the role as Tournament Director. It's been an honour and a privilege to work alongside him and get this event up and running. I'm certain that it's going to be a huge success!
