2008 Victorian Poker Championships Day 16: Jay "Seabeast" Kinkade Wins Main Event Title!

Day 16 and the final day of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships would see all eyes focussed on the final table of nine players who would return to the felt at 4pm to battle it out for the trophy and first place prize in excess of $200,000.   Sheldon Mayer (who prefers to simply be known as “Sheldon”) was the overnight chip leader and looked determined to be there at the death, as his anticipated loose style was curbed by the aggression of some of the other players at the table.

129 eager players returned to the Crown Poker Room for Day 2 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships Main Event. They were led by Michael Pinzone and he maintained that lead in the early goings as the big name players started to drop away. Early eliminations included Marlon Goonawardana, Steve Topakas, Mitch Carle, Kenny Ng and Eric Assadourian.

Day 14 marked Flight 2 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships Main Event and the players were out in force as 207 entrants took to the felt. Today’s field included WSOP Champion Joe Hachem, Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson, Sam Youssef, Tony ‘Bond18’ Dunst, Roy Bhasin and Leo Boxell.

It has taken nearly two weeks but Day 13 of the Victorian Poker Championships was the day everyone had been looking forward to; the beginning of the Main Event.   150 players took their seat in flight 1 including notables such as Peter Aristidou, Jay ‘Seabeast’ Kinkade, Jason Gray, Billy ‘The Croc’ Argyros, Jamie Pickering, Jonathan ‘xMONSTERxDONGx’ Karamalikis, Eric Assadourian, Shane Warne, Joel ‘StrongPlay’ Dodds, Grant ‘Grunter’ Levy and the 2007 Victorian Poker Championship Main Event champion Jozef

Day 11 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships produced two contrasting events to appeal to players of all varieties. The day start with 27 of Australia’s finest players, taking part in Event #10: $5,200 Pot Limit Omaha. The field was pro-heavy and featured the likes of Lee Nelson, Billy “The Croc” Argyros, Gary Benson, Grant Levy, Julian Powell, Tino Lechich, Jason Gray and World Series of Poker PLO runner-up Jamie Pickering.

Day 10 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships saw the start of Event #9: $1,100 No Limit Holdem 6 Handed. 175 entrants began today including the likes of Lee Nelson, James Broom, Paul “The Voice” Khoury, Jay “Seabeast” Kinkade, Zhi Hong Ma and Joe Hachem, as well as a contingent of Poker Network Forum regulars in Ali “KH4LIL” Khalil, Michael “TheSharkBoy” Palti and Scott “Punty” Smith.

Day 9 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships saw a world-class field of 46 players hit the felt at 12:30pm for Event #7: $1,100 H.O.R.S.E. With the five disciplines of Holdem, Omaha H/L, Razz, Stud and Stud Eight or Better, on show it was going to be a true test to find Australia’s best all around poker talent.

If you had any doubt over the popularity of the $100,000 Sit & Go Challenge event, it would have been dispelled last night as interest demanded not one but two tables in the “winner take all” event that has become one of the most highly anticipated among the high stakes crowd. 20 players put up the $10,200 to take their place in the field, which was run as two separate tables with the winner to take home the $100,000 first prize.

2008 Victorian Poker Championships Day 8: Rodrigues Wins Repechage

Day 8 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships began with the re-commencement of Event #5: $550 No Limit Holdem $250,000 Guarantee. 115 players remained and would play down to just one; which would be local cash game player Manny Rodrigues.

After a long heads-up battle with Paul Taylor, Rodrigues would claim his first major win when his 8 diams6 spades would eliminate Paul Taylor holding J spades5 clubs on a final board reading 6 diamsJ hearts5 hearts6 clubs7 hearts.

The top 50 players were payed but here are the final table payouts:
