Week in, week out, is your game improving?

They have arrived boxed and packed tight, cleared customs and ready to be read. Five poker books thanks to sign up offer on Party Poker, now what? Read and read again? Just how much time are we talking here in terms of our poker education?

So like I said, I now have the resource material, how long will it take to read, absorb, understand and read again while conducting an everyday existence? Let's say you're at University, you go to lectures you have tutorials you fail a subject you do it over. This line of thinking leads me to believe that my meager 5 book library is enough to fill my days, nights weeks and months for a good two to three years! Is this the time frame I am looking at to be a semi competent player? Is this what the rest of the grinders or casual poker groupies are doing or is this what separates the guppies from the sharks?

I am not cut out for all this theoretical input. I'd say good luck and good riddance but...poker is what it is, whether you're looking to tell the boss man to go "stick it" or make your million dollar dreams a reality, we all have a reason for hovering amongst this medium.

It seems the difference comes down to work ethic and in the most rare of cases, natural talent. The more you put in, the more you should get out right? There is another way to become a poker scholar apart from being coached and the like, you can put in major time at the tables and pay your tuition in sweat or be a man or woman and commit yourself to the cause fully. Seems I will be leaving the concept of learning to win behind, because as much as I would like to play the superstar and crush poker, I don't seem to have the dedication for it.

So if you see me at the tables there is a good chance that I am not losing money because I am a bad player or that you are necessarily a good player but the case may well be that I have chosen the school of volume and bad play to teach myself the lesson of poker. Either pay and pay again till you wake up and realise you need to put in the work there is no getting around it or give up any hope of living as a professional poker paying high roller.
