Monnette Closing In

Posted 2012-06-06 GMT-6

John Monnette brought it in with the {3-Spades}, and Tim Finne came along showing the {9-Clubs}.

Monnette: (x-x) / {3-Spades} {J-Clubs} {7-Diamonds} {6-Diamonds} / (x)
Finne: (x-x) / {9-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {7-Clubs} / (x)

Both men checked on fourth street, and Monnette checked again on fifth. When Finne bet, though, he was quickly check-raised to 100,000 total. He called the extra bet, then called another bet on sixth street. Monnette bet seventh street dark, and now Finne needed some time to think. He spent the better part of three minutes scratching his head and furrowing his brow, but he eventually tucked them under and surrendered.

Monnette is now in possession of more than 75% of the chips in play.

Pair of Fours Gets the Job Done

John Monnette brought it in with the {4-Spades} and then called after Tim Finne completed. The latter then called a bet on the turn before both men checked it down.

Finne: (x-x) / {A-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs} / (x)
Monnette: {4-Clubs}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs} / {4-Spades}{5-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

"Deuces," Finne said, prompting Monnette to reveal a superior pair of fours.

Tim Finne just took two little pots from Huu Vinh in a row. The second one began with Finne as the bring-in showing the {5-Clubs}. Vinh completed with the {10-Clubs}, and Finne made it two bets. Finne pulled the {4-Hearts} and fired again, and Vinh's {5-Spades} was good enough for one more call. The {6-Clubs} on fifth didn't help him, though, and he folded when Finne bet his {J-Clubs}.

That knocked Vinh down around the 300,000-chip mark, and John Monnette had his sights set on that remainder. In the next pot, Vinh completed with the {Q-Spades}, and Monnette called with the {7-Hearts}. Vinh pulled the {A-Diamonds} on fourth street and bet his lead, while Monnette's {8-Hearts} was good enough for a raise. Vinh called, but he folded when Monnette drew the {8-Spades} on fifth.

Vinh is getting short now, down under five big bets.

Vinh Slides

After John Monnette brought it in with the {3-Diamonds}, Tim Finne completed and Huu Vinh raised. Monnette then came to life with a three-bet, Finne folded and Vinh made the call. Monnette then fired on the turn, which Vinh called before checking fifth. Monnette fired once again and this time it proved too much for Vinh to continue.

Huu Vinh brought in with the {5-Diamonds}, then called the completion from John Monnette's {6-Clubs}. Monnette would keep on improving.

Vinh: (x-x) / {5-Diamonds} {10-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} {3-Hearts}
Monnette: (x-x) / {6-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {9-Spades}

Monnette made an open pair on fourth street, and he made the big bet of 50,000. Vinh considered for about a minute before stacking the call into the pot. He called another bet on fifth street, then finally surrendered when Monnette showed two pair on sixth. When Vinh folded, Monnette revealed the {K-Clubs} {K-Diamonds} he had buried.
