In under two week's time, at 15:00 on April 20, the biggest-ever poker tournament to be held in Asia will take place in Resorts World Manila’s Genting Club at the Asian Poker Tour (APT) Philippines. The tournament, dubbed the "Manila Millions," will command a HKD$1,000,000 buy-in (USD$129,000) and according to early the organisers are expecting between 25-30 player to take part; amongst them Phil Ivey and Tom "durrrr" Dwan.
Neither Ivey or Dwan require an introduction as they are two of the biggest names in the business, nor are they strangers to playing high stakes poker in the region as they are both regulars in Macau where the biggest cash games in the world currently take place. The very fact these two poker Goliath's are confirmed to play shows how far poker in Asia has come in the past few years.
Jeff Mann, the CEO of the APT, said in press release, "“The Asian Poker Tour and Resorts World Manila are going to make poker history once again and this time it’s by staging Asia’s biggest super high roller event. A buy-in of this magnitude will put the Philippines on the world poker map and the APT is excited to once again be working with Resorts World Manila to make it all possible."
The APT Philippines runs between April 19-25 and is headlined by a USD$2,700 Main Event that last year attracted 231 runners. They were eventually outlasted by Enrique del Prado who walked away with the coveted trophy and $179,260 in prize money.
