Default New poker legislation in Qld?

With a few great looking poker clubs now in full swing in the Brisbane area and holding their games in licensed venues I have to ask - has their been a recent change in the legislation regarding poker in Qld?

All the information I can find says anything other than free-to-enter/play tournaments are a no-no.

I'm desperately hoping that we're about to catch up with the other states as far as poker goes and we'd love to expand our own poker club in this fashion but I'm not going to do so until I'm 100% sure we're doing the right thing.

    Thanks guys.

The legislation has not changed in QLD at this time. It remains the same but there are "loopholes" (for want of a better word) for social clubs and such. I strongly recommend you speak to a specialist in this area and garner your own counsel on the matter.

Much respect for using "garner" in a sentence, without talking about cricket...

    Kudos!
    Check folding for pot control...

Thanks Bishop. I thought that might be the case but if others have had some advice regarding these "loopholes" then I was hoping that they would they be willing to share. Hopefully as more and more clubs pop up that knowledge will become more widely available and maybe even force the gov to formalize it all. I guess time will tell.

    Cheers

Or people abuse the loopholes in the system. Then the government closes the loopholes. Then all of QLD poker is screwed.

Be Careful what you wish for.

I doubt very much whether those clubs will come forward and identify their operating practices that allow them to host cash buy in events.

I am also not one to offer any advice (legal or financial) in a public forum, or to a stranger. In this industry there's always a civil suit waiting somewhere for me! (JK)

Rest assured that there is some pressure being applied and legal reviews being conducted. You only have to see what 888PL did in Victoria and in part what they did in SA (primarily the work of APA? sorry but the association escapes me,Police vs. ????) to see that cash buy in events are a possibility, and can become a reality in markets where it was thought they would never be possible.

    Shameless plug above.

Do you plan any 888PL events up that way?
