Asian Poker Tour Korea Festival Opens its Doors August 18

Posted at 14:20 2013-08-08 by Matthew Pitt

The Asian Poker Tour (APT) returns to Korea for the latest instalment of its popular tour. In partnership with the Phoenix Club, APT Korea 2013 takes place at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Jeju, Korea from August 18 through August 23.

Featuring buy-ins ranging from US$120 up to a more wallet-testing US$10,600, APT Korea 2013 has something for everyone, including you! Kicking off proceedings on August 18 is a US$120 No Limit Hold’em rebuy event that should see a substantial prize pool created.

Keep August 19 free if you want to compete in the US$5,000 High Roller event, a tournament that has seen its buy-in doubled from the last time it ran in Korea in March 2013. When the High Rollers even ran in March, it cost US$2,500 and attracted a compact but talented crowd of 18 players, each of whom were outlasted by Sparrow Cheung. The organisers must be expecting a much larger field this year given how they have set the buy-in at US$5,000.

Should US$5,000 be too small for your poker tournament needs, head to the Ramada Plaza Hotel at 2pm on August 22 for the Super High Rollers event. Anyone wanting to compete in this tournament will have to part company with US$10,600 – more than the World Series of Poker Main Event! Brian Powell won this very event last year when he defeated eight opponents to get his hands on the $57,600 first place prize.

Another tournament that has seen its buy-in increased dramatically is the APT Korea Main Event. In March, this tournament cost US$1,100, but this latest edition will set players back US$2,500. The reigning champion is Canada’s Ryan Tack Yu who picked up US$36,100 when he defeated Takuya Kato heads-up to claim the title of APT Korea Champion.
