Melbourne Poker Championships Joe Hachem Deepstack 9 Through To Day 2

Posted at 08:35 2012-05-06 by Matthew Pitt

The tournament named after arguably Australia's most famous poker player, Joe Hachem, has completed its trio of starting flight and they are now into the official Day 2. In total 169 players will return to their seats on Sunday in the Melbourne Poker Championships Joe Hachem Deepstack 9 and if they make it through the day's play they will be one step closer to becoming a worthy champion.

We mentioned in the last update that flight 2's chip leader, who was Dave Lee with 281,700 chips, would take some catching but amazingly his massive chip haul was outdone by the reigning Joe Hachem Deepstack champion, Andrew Mellado, who must have needed a reinforced bag to hold his incredible total of 377,500 chips!

Mellado won this event last year where there were 416 runners, defeating a talented final table that was also the home to the likes of Tony Zelevarov, Michael Guzzardi and the man he eventually defeated heads-up Mihn Hau Nguyen. Can he win unprecedented back-to-back titles in Melbourne?

Play resumes at 12:30 on Sunday and each of the surviving players will have at least one eye on the $49,500 first place prize but first they have to burst the money bubble to the $237,500 prize pool can start to be shared out. If you are taking part or are just a loyal fan that would like to know the seat draw then this little link here should help you find out that information!
