MPC Red Dragon: Just 18 Players Remain; Shashank Rathi Leads

The penultimate day’s play in the Macau Poker Cup (MPC) Red Dragon Main Event was another long day for players and media alike, but the end is now in sight for everyone involved as just 18 players remain.

When play resumed yesterday there were 157 players spread out in the tournament area of the Grand Waldo Entertainment Complex and they were whittled down to two tables of nine hopefuls. The first major milestone of the day saw Bin Sun commit his stack with {A-Hearts}{K-Spades} and finding himself up against a sole opponent who called with pocket jacks. Sun soared into the lead on a {Q-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop, but fell way behind again when the {j-Diamonds} made an appearance on the turn. The river was no help to either player and with that, Sun was eliminated, the bubble burst and the surviving 65 players each locked up HK$18,300.

According to the PokerStars Blog, in the hour after the bubble burst 25 players were eliminated! To say the action was fast and furious is an understatement! Eventually, just 18 players remained and the tournament was paused for one last time.

Only two players will start the final day with seven-figures stacks. Chung Tung Wai and his 1,100,000 stack is one of the, the overall chip leader Shashank Rathi the other. Both players are now in pole position to get their hands on the substantial HK$1,123,000 first place prize.
