Season 5 of the Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) kicked off yesterday at the Crown Casino, Melbourne with the first of 12 official ANZPT Melbourne events. The season-opening festival will run from Oct. 11 all the way through to Oct. 29 and it promises to be bigger and better than ever before.

Event #1 kicked off at 18:10 yesterday and was the first of four flights to the $250 buy-in opening event. Flight #2 opens its doors at 12:10 today whilst Oct. 13 will feature Flight #3 and Flight #4 at 10:10 and 16:10 respectively.

This edition of ANZPT Melbourne has some amazing looking tournaments scheduled, including a $100,000 guaranteed event that costs just $50 to enter; that’s correct, a $100,000 prize pool for just $50 outlay!

Other tournaments to keep an eye out for include the $250 Pot Limit Omaha rebuy event; the $1,100 No Limit Hold’em Six-handed event; and the $2,200 ANZPT Melbourne Main Event.

The last time the ANZPT hosted a Main Event at the fantastic Crown Casino, it was the United Kingdom’s Sam Razavi who left the venue with the title of champion, taking the $326,125 first place prize with him. PokerNetwork has it on good authority that Razavi will be back in Australia to defend his title, do you think he can win back-to-back events? Only time will tell.
