Recap of Opening Event and 1100 Six-Max
● 2011-01-20
Hey guys
Well my online schedule has been massively disrupted thanks to Aussie Mills events screwing with my sleep patterns, so I have barely grinded at all in the last few days but thought I'd recap on how I went in both the Opening Event and 1100 sixmax events.
My Opening Event table was relatively soft except I was unfortunate enough to have Jono (MONSTER_DONG) on my immediate right, and later PNW's own JadeTavernDegen at the table. Jono and I were both picking up chips just iso'ing limpers and taking it down preflop, however I had whiffed a few pots and been blown off a couple of big hands by some weird lines from randoms so was down to 27bb about three hours in.
Antes were in play and Jono had doubled his stack to about 80bb I think, he iso'es an UTG limper from the hijack, which by now I had gathered was with a very wide range (most aces, all pairs, lots of broadways I assume). I look down at KJo in the CO and shovel it in, Jono makes a pretty easy call with AQo and that was that. My play was obviously +cEV and would've also had the benefit of making sure Jono doesn't think I'll roll over just because he's opening a ton, but at the same time it's probably not the best use of my chips to lob it in against someone who will figure out what I'm doing and call down correctly.
The 1100 sixmax table was RIDICULOUSLY soft, like on Facebook I likened it to the 109 on ipoker but after thinking about it I doubt I have played a 4/180man on PokerStars that was this weak, seriously. I had chipped up to about 60bb a few hours in and got moved to a table with Mike "Sir Watts" Watson on my immediate left and some internet guy on my right (no idea who). I have met Mike before and have somewhat of an idea about his game from MTT videos, he is on the nitty side for an MTT reg but extremely competent and uses his image well in the right spots. He is also one of the nicest guys you'll meet in online poker, and was already back enjoying the local Aussie beers
Anyway Scott (?) Wiseman open limps the button (guy has a "No Bluff Management" patch and two gorgeous young things serving him drinks all day, you will not miss them...), the internet guy shovels 20bb in from the SB and I iso A9s from the BB and lose to his A3o. Undeterred, I open JJ into Mike who is sitting on 25bb in the big blind, he 3bets small, I jam and lose to AQo. Back to 15bb just like that!
I get back up to 30bb just shoving, reshoving and opening a ton, before Wiseman open limps the button again, internet guy shoves 25bb from the SB, I look down at 99 which is a super snappy reshove after the last time, but unfortunately lose to ATo. I'm at 4bb and go on a shoving rampage, it is just so lol how people don't adjust even though I am shoving almost any two, and that strategy works for over an hour (pretty sure I could see Dodds' at the bar laughing at me standing up for yet *another* all in every couple minutes) but eventually Wiseman open limps, internet guy limps, I whack in 10bb with 55 and Wiseman iso'es JTo and I am off to the bar...
The next event I am aiming to play is the Main Event on Sunday, I still have around 30% to sell if anyone is interested, and also if you happen to see me down at Crown be sure to say hello!
