First of all, lets not turn this into a tax debate. There is to be little tax discussion/debating in this thread (obv we cant have none because its an important thing in regards to playing for a living) Secondly, lets not turn this into a flame athon. I'm sure some of you can act and discuss things like the adults you claim to be Thirdly, be honest if we can This hasnt been discussed since 2007 @ PN, being 2011, the poker climate has certainly changed in Australian Casinos. There are lots of players, and all you do is need to ask around to realise that everybody is a winner, right? I would consider Crown being the largest poker room in the country so we will use their room for the point of this discussion, but use your room when you are discussing your experience So I guess firstly, if you are a pro player out of Australian Casinos/Tournaments, please speak up. Explain your story, winrates, bankroll, experiences and the general day to day runnings of your life. If most of your money is made online, then thats ok to discuss, just remember the point of this thread is live poker (note by pro I mean poker being your only source of income. working 3 shifts a week at safeway to live off does not mean your a pro player, it means you work two jobs and generally cant live without one) Now for some questions/debate What limits would you have to play, to overcome the rake. Lets assume you have a bankroll large enough and are generally a winning player. If you are playing 40 hours a week, to sit down at a 2/5 table you must first pay $400 in time. Thats before you even see a card, thats just the cost of your chair. On top of this, every decent pot you win you are paying $6 (1.2bb). Is this really beatable? Paying $400 just to sit at the table for 2/5? Are the bigger games soft enough that people can beat them? What about tournaments such as the ANZPT, are there enough of those+side events with structures decent enough to allow some kind of controlled variance for a MTT to show consistant profit? How much online play would you need to supplement your live play, if any at all? If you are a MTT pro, surely you would spend Mondays online playing the juicy sundays We all know the difference between live/online poker. What levels can a breakeven/small winner beat online? We know everybody claims to be a winner at the 2/3+ tables. So whos losing and filling the drop boxes I dont think we'll ever understand, but if some people here can provide some detailed explanations of their lives and how they beat the live games, I think it would make a clearer picture of whats possible for your aspiring player |

Live poker: where your winrate is $26/hour and the rake is $25/hour
![]() Seriously though I made ok money from live MTTs but nothing compared to online and my live cash winnings are negligible. I couldnt make a living below 5/5 after rake in Australia I know that much |
