The Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event Final Table is Set

Posted at 13:46 2009-03-23
After four gruelling days of poker action the final table for the 2009 Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series has been set. The official entry number sits at 898 which means that the winner of tomorrow’s final table will be walking away $100,000 richer. Not bad for a couple of days playing cards!

343 players made it through to day two of the tournament and considering that only 81 people were going to go home with any money, players needed to have their best game on hand.

Eliminations were slow early on with everyone eyeing the final table but in the end only ten players would get there. They will be headed by chip leader Daniel Botta who is sitting on 3,165,000. He will be the one that everyone is trying to catch tomorrow as the final ten desperately chase down the title of 2009 Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event champion.

There were a lot of big name players who made it through to day two and most of them were humbled throughout the day. Internet pros Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis, Ben “CNT_CRUSHER” Delaney and Michael “TheBigSiCkO” Guzzardi were early casualties while fellow online players Dean “Dinhjo” Nyberg and Jason “FlopNutsOnYou” Graham did last long enough to make it to the cash they did not last long enough to make the coveted final table that they were so desperately looking for.

Whilst talking about the online boys, special mention needs to be made of Mr “FlopNutsOnYou” who did indeed flop the nuts, not once, but twice within four hands of each other. The first time Graham held {7x}{8x} on a flop of {6x}{9x}{Tx} to flop the nut straight versus his opponent’s top pair, top kicker and the second time Graham held {2c}{2s} on a {jd}{2d}{2h} flop to again “FlopNutsOnYou” versus his opponents pocket aces.

Today didn’t just comprise of online players though, Lee “Final Table” Nelson was unable to live up to his name today as he busted out shy of the bubble. Other live player casualties included revered poker pro Tony Hachem, his brother Joe, “Toothpick Tony” and Graeme “Kiwi G” Putt, all of these players put in a big showing today but fell short of making it to the final ten.

There are a few players that we need to mention. Of course bubble boy Rob Collina who had the unfortunate position of being the most popular guy in Crown Casino. However I don’t think that even the 81 players that made the money because of his bust out buying him a drink each would be enough to drown his sorrows for going home cashless.

We must also mention S.K.Warne. That is right, arguably the greatest Australian who has ever lived put in a stellar performance to finish in 15th place in this week’s tournament. Warne did an amazing job to finish as high as he did but was eliminated when his pocket nines lost against Ace-Queen all in preflop. Warne seemed quite irate with his elimination. Well to the greatest spin bowler that has ever lived I offer this advice... Keep your chin up Shane - welcome to the life of a poker tournament professional... you lose races some time.

The seating positions of the ten players who will be fighting it out for the title of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Main Event Champion and $100,000 in cold hard cash and their chips counts are as follows.
