The second event of the 2010 PokerStars.net Australia and New Zealand Poker Tour kicked off today as the major Australian tour headed to the wild, wild west for the very first time, as the Burswood Entertainment Complex hosted the nation’s finest for a week of exciting poker action. A field of 83 players took to the felt today for flight 1A, with another 97 already registered for tomorrow’s flight. With last-chance satellites still being held at Burswood, the ANZPT Perth event is set to smash the previous record of 142 players for the biggest poker tournament in Wester

It’s been a busy week for Aussies online with Full Tilt’s MiniFTOPS powering through the first ten events of a 27 fixture card the extends into next week. PokerNetwork members have taken to the felt in droves for the popular low-stakes tournament series, but it looks like the big win has eluded them thus far.

With a public holiday in Melbourne today, we were expecting a big turnout for the Monday morning mayhem but it appears that many preferred a good sleep in, or perhaps a road trip offline, rather than endure the many hours of pain, tilt and merciless frustration that is the norm when one plays a full Monday schedule of tournaments.

February was highlighted by a change at the top of the Australian rankings, as well as a rash of strong performances from some of the bigger names in Australian online poker. For a few of them it could not have come at a better time.
The big individual scores came from Jarrod “Jaggy42” Wilson, James “Andy_McLEOD” Obst and Hugh “Jackovich” Cohen. All these players earned around $58,000 in their respective high-earning tournaments for the month.

Sunday, bloody Sunday for some, but a magic Monday to remember for one guy from Adelaide as “Jaggy42” would be the deepest running Australian in the special edition $4 million fourth anniversary Sunday Million at PokerStars.
The final few tables resembled a poker cup of nations as eager railbirds clamoured to support their own nationals, with chants of “Go Germany”, and “Aussie, Aussie, Aussie”, as common in the chatbox as a crowd at a World Cup football match.

A huge congratulations to Rennie Carnevale who is your new ANZPT Adelaide champion. With biceps that would put James Broom to shame, Rennie laid pretty low in the early stages of today’s final table, but later opened up with a series of big bets to keep maximum pressure on his opponents. He had a little bit of luck, but when play reached heads up, Rennie was like a bulldozer, relentlessly rolling over his opponent without fear.
