The Global Poker Index updated their extensive database last week and one man who benefited was Jonathan Karamilikis. The man known in online poker circles as xMONSTERxDONGx flew up 15 places and is now ranked number one in Australia for live poker tournaments.
Karamilikis' rise is down to a fantastic August where he cashed four times whilst on holiday in Barcelona. Karamilikis cashed in the €1,000 Estrellas Main Event before finishing eighth in the €1,850 High Roller of the same tour. Less than a week later he almost reached the final table of the European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona Main Event; busting in 11th place, before winning a €2,000 buy-in 6-Max event just days later.
Over a 10-day period Karamilikis won over €112,000 and as a result is now not only ranked number one in Australia but has also cracked into the top 300 places in the worldwide Global Poker Index; he is now ranked 255th.
Climbing to second place in Australia is Oliver Speidel who did not add to his points tally but his results are more recent than those of former World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joe Hachem, who lost points this week and fell to third place. Rounding out the top five are Daniel Chevalier and Grant Levy.
Making up place six through ten are Daniel Neilson, Jackie Glazier, Brendon Rubie, Tony Hachem and Joel Dodds.
Other big movers included Aharon Shabtay who moved up 11 places to 17th whilst Didier Guerin climbed 24 places to 18th.
Next week we could see plenty of change as the results from the recent APPT Melbourne festival should start to count towards players' totals. Brendon Rubie reached the final table whilst Leo Boxell — currently 12th — also had a deep run. All in all it should be a very interesting couple of months in the Australian rankings.
