Sailesh Lohia Gets Off to a Flying Start in the Macau Poker Cup

The first Macau Poker Cup held at the new PokerStars LIVE at the City of Dreams kicked off on Wednesday and saw 209 players pack into the purpose built venue. Day 1A witnessed some intense poker action that resulted in all but 51 players losing their stacks and having their dreams of winning the Macau Poker Cup dashed. One man whose dream is still alive and well is the overnight chip leader Sailesh Lohia.

Lohia is an Indian national who has made the trip to Macau in order to play in the prestigious Macau Cup – and what a decision that looks set to be. Lohia had the welcomed problem of having to figure out how to fit chips worth 164,500 into a single plastic bag, a total that would have been even more impressive had he not lost a number of pots as the day’s end neared.

One of the men who Lohia lost chips to towards the end of play, Ikezawa Ryuta, finished with 131,200 chips and finds himself second in chips; at least until Day 1B is completed.

Speaking of Day 1B, the second and final starting flight is in full swing as these words are being typed so make sure you check back into PokerNetwork later today for a brief recap of the action from the Macau Poker Cup. Word on the street is there could be upwards of 500 runners on Day 1B, which would make this one of the largest poker tournaments Macau has ever held.
