Two Aussie Triple Crowns In Two Days!

Congratulations to online players Nur1ck and kenn121 on becoming the 3rd and 4th Australians to win a PocketFives.com Triple Crown* in 2012. Remarkably the duo won the accolade within two days of each other making it five in the total for Australia this year with two for Trent "Ahurazor" Jones and one for Australia’s number one online player Kel “aces_up4108” Beattie.

Nur1ck began his quest for his very first career Triple Crown by taking down $10,000 Gtd Rebuy on PartyPoker on June 11th. The tournament had an overlay as the 187 runners failed to crack the guarantee but it was still an eligible event which our country -mate managed to ship for $2,750. Next on the cards was The Hot $44 Turbo on PokerStars on June 12th. The tournament drew a whopping 1,087 entrants and for coming top of the pile the Aussie claimed the $7,690 top prize.

Nur1ck, currently ranked the 17th best online tournament player in Australia, continued the charge by scooping the Ongame $20 tournament for $819. The event attracted 212 runners but with a prize-pool of only $4,240 it wasn’t enough to secure a Triple Crown. Undeterred, the mission continued as was finally completed on June 16th on the iPoker Network. The $10,000 GP Double Stack was the event and $2,750 was the top prize. Victory didn’t come easily as Nur1ck had to overcome the 29th highest ranked online player in the world in the form of the United Kingdom’s Kevin “scarface2911” Howe in a heads-up battle.

Making it a double celebration, kenn121 also shipped the badge this week as he earned his second career Triple Crown. His journey started on June 13th on the Ongame Network as he took down a $20 rebuy event for a $2,729 top prize. Currently ranked the 28th best player in Australia, kenn121 has $2.2 million in lifetime tournament earnings to his name and he added another $2,814 to that total by winning the $15,000 Guaranteed with Rebuys and Add-ons on the iPoker Network on June 17th.

He didn’t have to wait too long to finish what he started as he won the PokerStars $8.80 No Limit Hold’em with one rebuy and one add-on for $2,443. Overcoming 666 other players and a tricky last two tables the rebuy expert shipped the Triple Crown and made it a double success for Australia.

The Triple Crown is a real badge of honour for an online player and to date only 57 have been won this year. To see two Australian’s win in a matter of days is a fantastic result and a big well done to the players. A Triple Crown is an honour awarded by PocketFives.com for winning three different tournaments on three different online poker sites over a seven day period. The important caveat is that the tournaments must have a prize-pool of at least USD$10,000 and there must be a minimum of 100 entrants.
