Day 1b In The Bag; Dunwoodie Leads!
After another long day locked up in the Star City Poker Room, Day 1b of the Sydney Poker Championships Main Event has concluded!214 players took to the felt a little under twelve hours ago to form a total field size of 363 to battle it out for a share of the $544,500 prizepool with close to $137,000 available for whoever could best the highly skilled and predominately local-based field.
Local players Avi Ayalon, John Caridad, Ali Ghezelbash and Jim Ghobrial mixed it up with interstaters Con Tsapkounis, Tino Lechich and Michael Spilkin along with ANZPT Queensland Champion Scott Kerr, Melbourne Poker Championships winner Brendon Rubie and reigning champion Jarred Graham.
When the dust settled and the chips were bagged, the above mentioned would all find themselves elsewhere as only seventy players managed to sneak through for day two action tomorrow.
Leading the pack is Queenslander Sean Dunwoodie with an amassed 174,900-chip stack after completely destroying his table; one that never broke all day. Snapping on his heels include Joel Sheridan (161,000), Robert Oayda (160,700) and Mark Green (154,800).
Locals Mike Ivin (125,600), Daniel Kochan (124,700), Ali Khalil (94,000) and Sheldon (78,300) along with Melbournian's Leo Boxell (102,900) and Peter Aristidou (36,400) all remain within a shot of not only sneaking into the money, but also mounting a charge at claiming a final table berth.
Tomorrow at 12:30 p.m will see the combination of both Day 1a and 1b flights as the 50 and 70 players respectively will form a Day 2 field that will attempt to play down until just a final table of nine remain.
After getting some much needed rest, the PokerNetwork Live Reporting Team will again be on the floor to slave away catching every blow-up, bad beat and ego-boosting triple barrel bluff live from the 2010 Sydney Poker Championships Main Event! See you there!
