ANZPT underway in Adelaide

The latest land based poker tour to hit the shores of Austalia has kicked off at the majestic SKYCITY Adelaide.

The PokerStars Australia New Zealand Poker Tour is officialy underway and today's flight 1a saw a solid 104 players take their seats for the $3,000 buy-in main event. Tomorrow is also looking promising with another 100+ field expected to take to the felt.

Tournament Director and ANZPT commisioner Danny McDonough has managed to bring together some of the regions biggest and brigtest PokerStars in the game. Australian poker legend Joe Hachem, 2009 Aussie Millions champ Stewart Scott and old school names such as Lee Nelson are just a few of the big names who are playing in today's field.

The ANZPT will be looking to make a minimum of 4 stops this season, with Sydney hosting the next stop April 30th-May 3rd with a week long poker festival planned. After Sydney, the tour heads to New Zealand with the very unique destination of Queenstown hosting the 3rd leg of the tour.

The tour is going to be based on a league format with players obtaining points for their partcipation at each leg that will culminate in the top 3 places being being awarded additional prizes.

The overall points champion will win the incredble package of a PokerStars sponsorship that includdes Main Event entry, accommodation and return economy airfare from an Asia Pacific destination (or equivalent travel allowance if residing outside this area) to all Season 4 APPT Main Events during 2010. This package is valued at $50,000 and one that all the big names and online qualifiers alike will be fighting hard to win.
