There are very few poker players in the world who do not want to be regarded as the best in their chosen game but there are also few who actually manage to be able to have a legitimate claim to that title.
Much has been written about the emergence of British poker players, both in online and live poker circles, but for some reason Australian poker players have not been receiving the recognition we believe they deserve. But that could be all set to change because we have some amazing poker players amongst our ranks, and our current number one ranked player, according to the PocketFives ranking system, is none other than Matt "brownie682" Brown.
Brown hails from Dubbo, New South Wales and at time of writing he is the number one ranked Australian player for online poker tournaments and 28th across the entire world! According to a blog we found from 2010, Brown was a regular on PokerStars wheere he played heads-up SNG and small-to-medium multi-table tournaments under the name "aussie_star1" but it appears that he has progressed from those day and is now a big tournament grinder.
Again according to PocketFives, Brown has eon more than $1,140,000 from online poker tournaments, including over $850,000 on PokerStars alone. His largest cash of his online career came at the end of January 2012 when he finished second in the $530 buy-in High Roller on PartyPoker, where he plays as "LMS_gotti" for a cool $32,464.
Brown is seen as one of the new breed of Australian poker players who are going to push the visibility of the game to the next level. We'll be keeping an eye on Brown and his peers over the coming weeks and months and hopefully we will have some great brag posts to make!
