The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here! The 2013 Aussie Millions begin today at the Crown Casino, Melbourne.
This evening, at 18:15, the first of 26 superb events takes place in the Crown Poker Room. Evemt #1 of the 2013 Aussie Millions is a $1,100 buy in No Limit Holdem tournament that will be played to a Repechage format. For those of you who are wondering what that format is, it is essentially a re-entry tournament where anyone busting out of Flight 1 can enter in Flight 2 or three if they wish. This not only helps to lower variance for the players, but it also helps to grow the prize pools – which is never a bad thing.
The opening event features three starting flights, the second and third taking place at 12:30 on Jan. 18 and Jan. 19 respectively. The official Day 2 and final day kicks off at 12:30 on Jan. 20.
This event also ran in 2012 where it attracted a huge crowd of 946 players. On that occasion, the top 81 finishers were paid out, amongst them were the likes of Jay “SEABEAST” Kinkade, Grant Levy, Adam Cusenza, the new IveyPoker sponsored Jackie Glazier, the United Kingdom’s Rob Angood and of course, the eventual champion Brendon Rubie.
Although $1,100 is one of the smaller buy-ins on the schedule, the Crown realise that this is still out of reach of some poker players and, as a result, have decided to run a number of satellites to it. At 12:10 and 16:10 today there will be a $250 buy-in satellite that feeds into the Opening Event. The same $250 satellite also runs on Jan. 18 at 10:15.
