DefaultRe: Whose going to PCA from Australia??

Hey Tim

all my mates went to san fran earlier this year (for 10 days amongst a 4 week trip to the states) and they loved it. I couldn't go - work FTL I was there for 4 days earlier this year to visit a sick relative but didn't get to travel much but obv did see the golden gate bridge.

But its funny cuz they went on about alcatraz and the wineries up north. Apparently you have these headphones you put on as you go around alcatraz and its the prisoners guiding you around etc. Sounded very interesting really looking forward to that. We have family there that will take us around so should be good.

There is like 0 chance that the field is the softest out of any 10k besides WSOP.

Meh, I used to think this but Stars do a really good job with satellites so there'll be a few hundred people there who got in for free or a few bucks. I haven't played either of them but I'd have to imagine Aussie Millions 10k is softer, but people probably overestimate how tough the PCA is just because most US online regs go.

I'll be at the PCA in an official capacity, as will Danny. Happy to (try) answer any questions people have about the event. Anything directly in the relation to the schedule I can probably find out the answer or Danny may know.

Over 600 qualifiers as of today, and the field will likely be over 1,500 again. As bazooka said, many of these qualifiers will have won their way in through freerolls and a bunch of other promotions. While just about every serious MTTer in North America and many from Europe will play, don't be thrown off by this.

Yes it's expensive to get there, and unfortunately the spending money from the satellite package is only good for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the plane ticket, if you haven't been before, it's a tournament series that every serious poker player should attend at least once.

The food choices near the ballroom/poker room aren't great (Murray's Deli, that place that serves New York style pizza and Johnny Rockets at the wharf will be a staple for many), but the restaurants in the Cove are quite good.

As food is very expensive in Atlantis, most of the PCA satellites award a package that includes food credit (around USD$1k). This is usually more than enough to last you for your stay. If not, I don't think you'll exceed it by much.

Coincidentally, I just spent the last four days in San Francisco. The weather wasn't great, but had a great time nonetheless. Highly recommend Fisherman's Wharf, Alcatraz (ferry terminal right near Fisherman's Wharf) and checking out Haight Ashbury.

Nauv, as your mates said, when you go into the cell area of Alcatraz they give you a headset and you have former prison guards and even inmates narrate you through daily life, break out attempts, general thoughts and some other things. Really interesting stuff.

Don't forgot some warm clothes. This year it was really windy and rainy most days in the Bahamas. Fingers crossed for better weather in 2011 but it's best to be prepared.

Nauv

Napa valley is great, and worth the time.

Dis-agree with E) tho. Think AM is a decent amount softer (and a shit ton closer)

You may, or may not be correct. But def not a zero percent chance.

The good regs on 2p2 that actually PLAY 10k's around the world state that its the softest of any outside of WSOP ME. There are some guys that have played the AM, WSOP and PCA and after having played them all can make the judgement.

Softestness is extremely dependant upon who's making the judgement (subjective) but i was merely state the general consensus on 2p2 among the live regs who play all these tournies.

I kinda thought it would be lame, but it was actually really enjoyable. Having said that it will be bloody cold !!

Also, if you get a chance, head over to Berkerley (which as you may know was the centre of the anti-war movements during WWII). It's a pretty cool little town, lots of coffee shops and bookstores but well worth the visit I thought.

If you venture further north up to Napa County, I can probably find you some good suggestions on wineries, as one of my best friends lives up there and is pretty active in her local community (plus she is a lawyer which is always handy).

I'm not saying it wouldn't be soft because let's face it after all its live poker but I've got little doubt that the AM main is way softer than the PCA main. Why is play in capital letters?

I am not sure what i was thinking when i captilised it but i suspect i was trying to highlight the fact that its not my opinion its that of those that have played all three and aren't just speculating.

anyway you could be right about AM being softer. I don't know any better cuz i haven't played either lol - in my original post i was posting the cliffs from the PCA thread on 2p2 that is like 15+ pages long incase the OP didn't wanna read the whole thing.
