would be hugely surprising to me, HUGELY, if PCA is even in the same softestness league as AM...

Yes it's expensive to get there, and unfortunately the spending money from the satellite package is only good for about 1/4 to 1/3 of the plane ticket, if you haven't been before, it's a tournament series that every serious poker player should attend at least once.
If this is the case why the F do stars put it there or put too little in the package, is this because they design it for USA/Euros.

I would have thought instead of the Carribean you would go somewhere easier and cheaper to get to.

I also thought that a trip Syd/Melb to LA then use the budgets to cross USA then jump in and out that it should be cheaper but I know crossing the US rather than going up and down is more expensive as its greater distance. Still 3.5K is a sick beat.

no i am not going but would love to have gone. play the binglaha for sure. PLO with a dice roll post flop to work out if its high or low. sucks getting in for high and then having to play for low...lol.

I look at this logically without knowing the answer.

A) no one on here has played both events
B) everyone on here is basing their opinion on having played one event without knowing anything about the other.... But the logical conclusion they draw is that 'wow AM me is soooo soft it would be impossible to get any softer'
C) among the ppl in the know that trAvel the world playing these, some of whom have played both, the consensus seems to be that pca main is the softest.
D) even if they are possibly incorrect - they are prob not far off and certainly not by the distance that berky and Joel seem to be implying.

Not a post to start a war - just thinking about this logically. Feel free to highlight anything I might have missed or misinterpreted.

how many of the 2p2 regs have played them both?

every american kid i talked to (beat; americans) at the past two aussie millions (beat: lolbourne) has laughed long and loud at the prospect of AM being anywhere near the same field strength as PCA...

WSOP Main
WPT Venice
that 7k euro thing in Cannes
Aussie Millions

a bunch of other shit

PCA

why would it matter who has played and who hasn't, how does that make sense? i've played both, for me to be able to judge the field based on the makeup of my tables would be silly. plenty of access to field info for those seeking it.

for what it's worth i'd predict my ROI to be a.. well, very very large amount higher in the AM than PCA. Rich locals in the Bahamas versus in Australia.. there's your answer (the Bahamas isn't the glamour location it may sound, it's close to a third world country with a 5-6 star resort in the middle of nowhere). The field might be double but for every 10 solid regs that play the PCA, I'm not sure if even 1 comes down under. You'd have to be pushing the PCA up to a field size of bout 3500 to even things in my opinion. Think about the 500/500 on stars - it's a fairly tough tourney, gets 1,000+ every week and obviously not every tough player plays it. Now consider nearly every tough player plays the PCA and 1,500 players doesn't seem so many after all. It's amusing that it's considered to be close value-wise by many.

see some of you there, gl

I've played both but as Obst said it's impossible to judge from your own experiences since it is determined by your table draw so much. Overall I would definitely say AM is softer but given the choice I'd definitely go to PCA - water park, restaurants, international atmosphere (don't underestimate this), side events, cash games... they all trounce AM. Anyway AFAIK you can play both...

DefaultRe: Whose going to PCA from Australia??

Hi Guys,

Been busy the last two days building up my iternary for the PCA (so have not looked up the forum)... I am happy to report that I have been able to book tickets very cheaply using a combination of FF points and cheap tickets.

In a nut shell, there are still Qantas redemptions seats available to LA for only 48000 points one way. (worth about $600) The difficulty bit was getting back to Oz. I am lucky in that I live n work in Singapore, so I found the bargain of the century. It only cost 42000 points to fly American Airlines from New York to Tokyo, and guess what the taxes is only $2.50!!!.

I then use Singa Air points to pick me up from Tokyo to Singa for 19,000. So all up my cash outlay has only been $900, of which $600 is for Jetblue internal flights in the USA n Bahamas, but I get a stopover in Boston and New York.

I just hope this helps those that are still planning to go, where there is a will there is a way.

I guess I am keen to meet some Aussies that wanna hang in LA, Boston n Atlantis. I will probably spend considerable time at the Commerce Casino to see if there are any differences in the way that Americans play. I spoke to Jason from Star y'day and he told me that Grigg n Obst will be there. I hope that I can meet u all. I will be wearing my Aussie Cricketers cap

Btw, am a still a recreational player that has learnt alot from the poker scene in Oz the last two months (in between jobs at the moment). I have been flying to Macau (when in Singa) monthly for their tournaments, and I have to say the Asian field is definitely weaker than the Aussie field. I reckon there is easy money to be made in Macau whilst the Chinese learn the new game. Just my two cents worth.

Good luck to those playing in the AM.

Merry Xmas.
Momo

Just a few questions for Danny and/or Luke.

1) what is the best way to enter the side games? Do they accept credit card entries like star city does? Or can you Somehow use stars money from ur online account to buyin? I prefer not to carry 10-20k in cash as I'll be in te USA before hand and just a pain to declare etc.

2) how do they pay winnings(ok to dream) - will they wire to my bank here and what details will I need? Iban/swift etc?

3) As Aussies do we pay tax on winnings?
