Who's going to PCA from Australia??

I was lucky enough to win a PCA seat yesterday, but now only starting to realise the cost of flying there from Australia during the peak holiday season here.

Just would like to meet up with like-minded individuals who is making the big treak over there also. Also, I got two queens beds and access cards for the unlimited water rides and theatres etc that I am able to share.

What price are you paying for airfares?
I looked into it briefly and it came to about 4k per person.
Does that sound about right?

Yes, thats about right. From my investigations so far, the cheapest is to fly VAustralia on a round the world fare, since its on the other side of world in any case.

Its works out Syd > LA, then MIA or NY (still deciding) > London > HK > Syd at 3.2k, then u add on the flight from LA to NAS, then NAS to MIA or NY for about 300 all up give 3.5k in total. Obviously I plan to have a quick catch up with friends in each city before I come back home

My plan is to get to LA early, play at the Commerce Casino so I hopefully get over jetlag and get used to the way that Americans play. Fingers crossed!

Wouldnt the cheapest way to do it be get return flights to LAX for 1k and change then LA-either Orlando/Miami and go from there? Could be wrong of course.

Yes normally it would, but u are flying peak season, during the festive season. I guess thats why no one has respond to my post, I think only a handful are going from Oz.

Hey I'm going - paid 3.2 each for me and my wife but prob more now. We going to San Fran Christmas eve and flying into Bahamas on Friday 7th. U play the live circuit in aus at all?

From aus afaik tollgate, obst u and me so far.

Tbh if I had read the posts on 2p2 about the resort etc I would prob have never played any sats to it. As it turned out I won te first sat I played and then did research on resort and flights etc...

A) room Internet for poker shit/nonexistent/expensive
B) service shit
C) food shit
D) normally weather is good so it makes the experience somewhat worthwhile but last year weather was shit too
E) field is softest of any 10k except wsop me.
F) ppl mostly go to meet up with mates etc and sat in and also cuz of softness of field.

Something that contradicts above tho is all the non poker ppl I've asked that have been have loved it and I guess it's because most ppl on that 2p2 thread may be extra shitty about crappy Internet and making bias statements about other aspects.

Have you tried JetBlue which flys LAX-NAS via BOS or JFK with great connections?

Return seems to be about US$600.

Is it the SYD/MEL to LAX that is the expensive bit?

1. I went the last two years and paid 4K last year booking in November and 5K the year before booking in December. Both times with Qantas.

2. The people who say the hotel, food etc. are shit are spoilt brats trying to show off. The hotel is certainly expensive, but the food and water park are great. I don't know how bad the internet is for poker, but if you go there and grind the Sunday Majors in Coral Lobby you deserve bad internet for being such a life-donk. Service in the restaurants is also fine, not sure about room service (never got it). I went with 4 friends over the course of the two trips and they all had a blast, as did I.

3. Since last year they made the side event schedule pretty sick.

Nauv, not sure if you have been to San Francisco before, but you should definitely check out Alcatraz if you haven't.

I kinda thought it would be lame, but it was actually really enjoyable. Having said that it will be bloody cold !!

Also, if you get a chance, head over to Berkerley (which as you may know was the centre of the anti-war movements during WWII). It's a pretty cool little town, lots of coffee shops and bookstores but well worth the visit I thought.

If you venture further north up to Napa County, I can probably find you some good suggestions on wineries, as one of my best friends lives up there and is pretty active in her local community (plus she is a lawyer which is always handy).
