2009: Has been a bit meh, the first roughly 8 months I didnt get the chance to put any volume in really and the last 3 months have been about getting back into the swing of it and trying to up my volume. Have done well on tilt and run my roll up playing mostly MTTs/some cash, and now have a decent roll spread across 5 sites. Live was very ordinary, didnt have the time to play much and when I did I felt bored and basically spewed stacks away for no apparent reason, but have run good at 2/3 at Crown and won a decent amount.
2010: 1. Make top 100 in Victoria on p5s TLB. 2. Make top 100 in Australia on p5s TLB. 3. Work my way up to 100NL 6 max cash. 4. Watch 3 training videos per week. 5. Badger the shit out of SP/Risk/Grunter/Nikkaka - and anyone else I can think of who can help me try and own this game (reimbursement in the form of alcohol @ liveaments obv). 6. Reach 2K posts on 2p2. 7. Reach $33 ABI for MTTs. 8. Try and be balla enough to quit work. GL all. |

The biggest thing for a family guy playing poker online IMO, is the family itself. A single guy living in a unit can do whatever he wants, his expenses are clear cut and normally voluntary. With a family it's different. I remember about halfway thru, I came 2nd in something for 5.5k on a Friday, then FT'd something else for a k, then won something on Monday for 6k. I was on top of the world, easy game etc etc. I took 10k out of my roll, wife started to be a believer. Then the washing machine blew up, both cars came up for rego/greenslip/service, we took a 3 day holiday, and boom 10k was gone. No real drama when I'm pulling 200k+, but when your sole source of income is tourney grinding it is. Although you have had some seriously impressive results (I think we were in a vid together at APPT sydney ?) 8 weeks is just WAY too short to make a call like that. Do you have the financial power to support your family in the lifestyle they currently enjoy, if you pulled in next to no cash for 6 months ? I'd like to hear Grunters thoughts on this, considering he is coming from almost the opposite direction. Last edited by Elvis; 14-12-2009 at 03:40 PM. |

One of the best threads of the year, and thanks for starting it, and to everyone for contributing.
My 2009 started with me winning a seat into the Aussie Millions Main Event and then the APT Manila before the first month had passed. I proceeded to bust out of the AM before the dinner break on Day 1, and then managed to bust in Manila in 40 minutes. At that point I still considered myself a cash game player, and wanted something to motivate me in tournaments, especially live where I hadn't cashed in anything of significance. Ducky came up with a prop bet of first to 10k in cashes which gave me the motivation to turn my attention to tournaments which I am thankful for. I didn't particularly enjoy the variance compared to cash games, and still don't, but I put time and volume into MTTs online, despite struggling to break even. In March I then grabbed my first decent live cash with a deep run in the JHDSS Main Event. I finished the rest of the challenge online and won the side bet. In around April-May, I turned a $16 sub-satellite into a $215 satellite entry for the ANZPT in Melbourne. There were two seats up for grabs, and when three-handed my QQ held up against KJ to win a seat. Ironic how QQ would haunt me later. The other chap who won a seat in that satellite was some poor sod called grunter321. Has a future that kid. The ANZPT Melbourne event itself was an unbelievable three days. I remember talking to Ducky the night prior to it starting, and saying how awesome it would be to finish Day 1 with 100k. I ended up with 210k. I ran like God until heads up when that QQ would end up giving me nightmares as it lost to Chris Levick's AJ for the title. I hope I one day get that opportunity again. I went to Vegas for work and didn't play any WSOP events this year. I was offered an opportunity to play the WSOP Main Event but turned it down for various reasons. One of my goals for 2010 is to win my way into the WSOP Main Event. I won a seat into the ANZPT Queensland and had another deep run but missed the money. This was the most enjoyable event of the year for me, and another goal for 2010 is to qualify into as many ANZPT events as possible, as I think the tour is brilliant. The last few months have been rather brutal, as variance got hold of me. I had some deep runs at JHDSS3 but swung bad at the wrong times, and didn't cash, and then struggled online. But its a funny game as the last two days have been really good, and today I hit my biggest online MTT score to get myself back in the black. It's been an amazing 2009 and exceeded all expectations, so I look forward to 2010. 2010 goals: - Continue to put in good online volume - Reach more online FTs and four/five figure cashes - Get inside PLB Aus Top 100, then top 50 - Forget about cash games, maybe just play live for fun - Play Aussie Millions Main Event - Win into multiple ANZPT events - Play WSOP Main Event - Bring home a trophy!

i dont have much to add about myself, although i will mention a few things.
- played my first tourney at crown year an a bit ago.. approx 85 runners, came first. (thought i was the shit) - began online on a serious note, and realized i was no where near serious. - then went on as i found this site, and began posting stupid shit - realized i need to stop posting stupid shit, in order to gain some respect for future assistance - Im still not where i wanna be, but thanks Wonky for taking a chance with me (i was hoping to say thankyou after i won my first mil, which may be never, so better say it now) - was railing a $109 one day, and scrolled down the names and the suburbs to come across some guy from 'carnegie' (which was a walks distance to me) watched him everyday for weeks, until i began talking to him on the chat panel (had to deposit $109 to do this btw) eventually met Zedveron, and he (like wonky) not so much pointed me into the direction of success, but steered away from really bad mistakes. - THANK YOU! - i have much to focus on life before i can commit more than 10% (currently) to poker, it will always be on the side, and never a job. - i have a long way to go, but have made a start! thats all about me. don wanna talk shit about wat im gonna do, but rather show it hopefully one day. seems like i have a 'want' to prove to the guys here. on another point, over the course of this year, its so good to see a lot of the guys here in oz, and especially this forum just get better and improve, whether its micro stakes or majors, all i do is watch and listen to guys 'FT; this, and 'cash' that, and talk about things that makes me feel im leap yrs away. its always positive though, and makes me want to work. also, wanna thank all you guys that help out on the 1% shit i bother you about, you know who you are. gl |
