Minh nguyen's recent live nlhe tourney results are as good as anyone's from qld. He isnt well known and is pretty quiet and keeps to himself. Wasnt mentioned so far but should be there in my opinion.

How about the Captains get scrapped and a panel select the best of all states. Seems to be a decent way to get rid of all the fairly poor selections that are made each year.
Probably get the panel made up of those who wouldn't be playing. Jonno, Danny, Australian Poker Room Managers etc.

people on this board way over-rate online players for the purpose of this event, though of course people originally chosen to pick teams under-rated them.

i say this every year but no-one notices or cares when you win a $109 freezeout online, just the same as no-one notices or cares when you win a live $550 side event.

the teams should be picked objectively based on a combination of long-term success, recent form, and respect among peers.

ultimately it should aim to represent the 8 "most relevant" players from each state, so just as someone who used to win a lot but has now struggles to beat the game shouldn't make the cut anymore, someone who quietly wins money online without meeting anyone or bothering to seek the spotlight shouldn't be playing the event either as they are not really relevant to australian poker.

100% Agree with Grunter on this ..... and this won't happen often
