Default State Of Origin - Have your say

This years SOO will form part of the APPT Melbourne event and is less than 2 months away.

We are in the process of defining qualification criteria and appointing team Captains.

Now is the time to have your say, either publicly in this thread, or via e-mail.

It would be good for a bunch of names being thrown into the mix before the captains select their teams just so people they might not even know existed are considered.

I assume "qualification criteria" will refer only to clarification of who can represent each state (which I thought we sorted out last year?) as opposed to criteria of who can play in each team.

It should be entirely up to the captains to appoint their team. Pick the right captains who understand the players in their state and there should be little problem. If the captain doesn't have a good understanding of live/online players then they should either seek advice or re-appoint a new captain. There's always going to be debate with team selection in some of the states with good player depth, but that's just part of the concept. Representing your state is a privilege, not a right. I'd like to captains choose sides based on recent results rather than reputation, but again, it's the captain's call and he takes responsibility for his team. If he gets it wrong, and players aren't happy, submit something to Jonno for a different captain the following year.

Teams should be submitted to Crown several weeks prior to the event - firstly to get approval of the team chosen and so that they can be announced publicly to the media to create some hype.

Please have an MC for day one and an announcer for the final table to create some sort of excitement and atmosphere for the event.

Could you explain what the "Captains Choice" table is all about?

Would've liked to see a different format devised to prevent collusion and softplay on the final table. Perhaps that's what the Captains Choice table is for, but if it detracts from the final table, then seems a convoluted way to go about it.

Whenever this event rolls around I think of the country bracelet/cash count on the WSOP site and their introduction of national anthems. It's even worse when you're fronting a buyin in which you have very little control over the outcome and any idiocy from your teammates. Can't we just declare poker isn't a sport once and for all? It's especially not a team sport.

obv bitter that I won't be chosen etc.
