How recent is recent though? Last month, last 6 months, last year, last 3 years?

There are people who should clearly be in teams regardless of whether or not they have had a 'recent result' or not. For instance, I think Joe Hachem could not cash in another tournament for the rest of his life and still have the right to be selected in the Victorian team, similarly a guy like Billy the Croc, a hall of famer, has more claims to selection than a player who might snare a win in an obscure leg of an ANZPT a week before the State of Origin and has no other results to his/her name.

Jeweller still in charge of Queensland?

Looking forward to seeing what the boys are doing up here ... I'd love to rail a solid team the same as I would Rugby State Of Origin

Proper selection processes? A wildcard option? No Nepotism? No Donks? ... eh eh eh

A lot of good players who can really put their hands up this year ....

Kosta, Karsten, Occy (I know you're Austrian, do you qualify?) Tim, Rick, Mitch etc

lmao, probably true....

But I'm happy no matter who plays for WA...

A. Im not good enough to play poker let alone play for a State, and
B. I definately am not good enough to suggest that others shouldn't play.

But, I think no matter what the concept should stay in some way shape or form. Cause we (this community) will look back as very old men/women and think I'm glad we supported that, im sure.

last year the QLD team was a FARCE.. online guys like ricky K, moffo, kris cunz, spewtard etc should have been given a look in and hopefully this year the selection process will reward these guys who consistently put up results and not just live donks who dont evn play poker!!!!!

prob should be along the lines of - 2 places for hall of famers/players that pick themselves regardless of if they have done well recently or not- ie - Hachem/Grant/Argyros/Obst/Jay/Jono/Van etc, then say 2 of the remaining spots for guys who have had a great year (live or online), and the other 4 how its normally picked.

One thing for sure is between now and August this thread will be 100 pages and accusations will be made etc etc

Can't we just get swoop to pick his borderline top 5, and fill it out from there?

I agree with that, and there should be no hard and fast rule about it. Again it should be entirely up to the captains. Hopefully a captain is chosen who has some common sense. If the captain acknowledges the achievements of HOF'ers and wants to include them that's fine. I would also. But I also have no problem if a captain thinks that Joe Hachem or Billy the Croc (just using your examples) are no longer the best choice for the team/format. It's the captain's call. If the team is unhappy with that call then make a submission for a different choice of captain for next year.

For most teams there will be a core group of 4-6 players who will almost pick themselves. When referring to recent results, I would personally favour that simply for the last few places on the team.

The farce of SA three years ago (and arguably QLD last year) was only because the wrong captain was chosen. But if South Australia wants to keep picking donkeys like Obst, Graham and Karamalikis then good luck to them.

Choose the right captains and the rest will take care of itself.

For NSW just pick 6 St George supporters a Nigger from Newcastle and an absolute cunt from the Belmore... that'll do it!
