In just over a week we will see the successful PokerStars.net ANZPT wrapped up for 2009 with the final event taking us to the sunny shores of Queensland.
In a new twist, the tournament will be held in two different locations with one flight taking part at Conrad Treasury Casino in Brisbane, and the other at Conrad Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast from the 5th to the 9th of August.
The $2,500 buy-in should attract a stellar field to see the final ANZPT stop with close to 300 participants expected, as many still battle it out for a piece of the ANZPT sponsorship package. The current standings areas follows:
1st – Tony Hachem (160.1 points)
2nd – Chris Levick (139.2)
3rd – David Zhao (92.4)
4th – Karl Krautschneider (90)
5th – Danny Joukhader (84.4)
6th – Celina Lin (80.8)
7th – Bruno Portaro (79.6)
8th – Andrew Hinrichsen (79.5)
9th – Daniel Noja (79.2)
10th – Billy Argyros (79)
With prizes on offer including APPT Season and Aussie Millions Main Event sponsorship valued at $60,000 for first, ANZPT Season sponsorship for second and $10,500 worth of tournament entries and packages for third, the race is still fairly open. However following the fantastic effort of Tony Hachem, he has locked up a top two spot with only Chris Levick being able to topple Hachem if he cashes just beyond the first few spots (dependent on total numbers in field).
For the remainder of the top ten, they can all move to second place on a 200-plus field, while the top 100 can theoretically move to third place on a 200-plus field (both of these figures are dependent on finishing place of certain individuals).
Following this unique and innovative format devised of playing the Main Event in two venues concurrently, ANZPT commissioner Danny McDonagh believes that, "This is a great opportunity to firmly place Queensland as a new and exciting addition on the Australian poker tournament map. What makes this event even better is that there is no admin fee for ANZPT Queensland. The entire $2500 buy-in per player goes back into the prizepool."
The five-day event begins on Wednesday the 5th with both venues playing a day 1a and 1b with a cap of 280 players plus 20 alternatives. All players who qualify through to the third day will all play at Conrad Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast, with any player who makes the final table who commenced play at Brisbane receiving a complimentary night's accommodation at Conrad Jupiters Casino Hotel.
With not only the ANZPT Queensland Champion being decided as well as the race of the inaugural ANZPT Points Title being concluded, all the live coverage will be found at PokerNetwork.com.
