The Co-Captains of Team Australia, in the World Team Poker Tournament, Jeff Lisandro and Tony G have selected their line-up to take part for poker’s version of the world cup to be held at the Golden Nugget Casino in Las Vegas on May 19.
Lisandro and Guoga, have both been a dominant force in poker tournaments around the World as well as high stakes cash games, and have assembled an equally strong supporting cast, that they believe is capable of not just representing the country with pride, but will be amongst the favourites to take down the whole event.
The Australian Team boasts numerous final tables including WSOP, EPT and APPT events, and will be competing in a format which will consist of Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit Hold’em, Pot Limit Omaha and a Stud game.
The inclusion of Stud will be welcome news to Team Australia as they are the holders of a combined six World Series of Poker Bracelets in Stud events.
The complete Team Australia line up is:
Jeffrey Lisandro – Co Captain
Antanas “Tony G” Guoga – Co Captain
Billy “The Croc” Argyros
The mixture of experience and youth will surely be an advantage to Team Australia as they look to take on Teams from USA, China, Israel, Vietnam, Greece, Brazil and England.
Stalwarts of the Australian poker scene including Gary Benson (a WSOP Bracelet winner in 1996), Mel Judah (WSOP Bracelets in 1989 and 1997), Billy “The Croc” Argyros (WSOP $10,000 PLO Championship Final Table) and Marsha Waggoner (first female inducted into Australian Poker Hall of Fame) will look forward to taking their seats alongside some of Australia’s best young talent.
Grant Levy (2007 APPT Sydney Champion), David Saab (Aussie Millions HU and APT Manilla winner) and Stephen Topakas (12th place Aussie Millions Main Event 2010, 2nd place 2009 Melbourne Champs) represent the future of poker in Australia. All 3 are well known on the local scene, and as well as being extremely talented poker players, they are also known for their imposing table presence and posses the ability to put opponents on tilt - sure to be an asset when they take the felt at the Golden Nugget next month.
