Day 3 of the 2010 PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event saw 28 players return to the SKYCITY Poker Room, with the goal of first bursting the bubble and then reaching the final table of nine by the day’s end.
The overnight chip leader was Tom “tollgate” Grigg who entered the day with a massive chip lead, which he extended in the early stages before coming back to the field later in the day. There were a few nervous moments as four unlucky players missed the money before the bubble finally burst and the remaining 24 players could breathe a sigh of relief.
Amongst them were Julius Colman (23rd), Damien Wong (21st), Shaun Gray (18th), Ian Parnell (13th) and PokerNetworker Luke Edwards (11th) all fell during the day before Lance Climo fell just short of back-to-back APPT Auckland final tables in 10th place.
The big story of the day was the remarkable comeback of New Zealand hip hop legend Brotha D. After battling on the short stack for much of the day, Brotha D doubled and then tripled up to claim a narrow chip lead entering the final table tomorrow.
Earlier in the tournament, PokerNetwork’s own Lynn Gilmartin caught up with Brotha D for a quick interview...
The final table has a real international flavour with five countries represented including Australian tournament veteran Leo Boxell and young gun Tom Grigg. All the action kicks off at 1pm local time as we play down to a winner and crown a new Australasian poker champion.
