The month of February saw Australia’s finest cross the border to the SKYCITY Casino in Adelaide for commencement of the 2010 PokerStars.net ANZPT. An impressive field of 236 players joined the Main Event action as the man with the biggest biceps in poker, Rennie Carnevale, captured the title and a whopping $165,900 in prize money.
The PokerStars SuperNova was a quiet achiever for most of the tournament, but once play reached heads-up Rennie found another gear to power his way to the win, as another trophy heads back to Wollongong. There must be something in the water up there, following Aaron Benton’s big win at the APPT in Sydney in December, as Rennie’s month also included a second trophy in one of the ANZPT Adelaide preliminary events for another $12,475 in winnings.
A fantastic effort by Rennie as he stamps his place on the Australian tournament poker scene as the PokerNetwork Player of the Month for February.
Looking at the young guns and we turned our attention back to one of the last events of the Aussie Millions schedule to recognize the abilities of one of the finest young players in the country. The event was the $2,200 No Limit Holdem Six-Handed event and the winner was Kristian Lunardi who captured his first Aussie Millions championship ring and $118,500 in prize money.
Kristian is arguably one of the best short-handed players in the country at the moment with three other deep runs in six-handed tournaments during the last 18 months, including another title in the heads-up event at the Victorian Championships.
With an impressive online resume to boot, Kristian is a player to watch out for on the Australian poker circuit this year and a worthy winner of the PokerNetwork Young Gun of the Month award.
Congratulations Rennie and Kristian!
Aussie Millions champ Tyron Krost remains at the top of the 2010 PokerNetwork Australasian Rankings Leaderboard with Rennie Carnevale joining him at the top. Other big movers during the month were Dan Neilson who picked up a final table result at the ANZPT to move into 4th place, while Peter Aristidou joins the top 10 after collecting a preliminary event trophy in Adelaide. The winner will receive a fantastic custom table and chip set package with thanks to our friends at Pocket Aces Over Kings!
