Last year’s inaugural WPT Marrakech event was such a huge success that the World Poker Tour decided to bring the event back in 2010. The WPT Marrakech Main Event will take place from November 27th to the 30th at the lavish Casino De Marrakech. This is one of the cheaper WPT main events with the buy-in at €4,250 + €750, so it should prove to be another popular poker-travel destination.

416 players took part in the 2009 WPT Marrakech Main Event, which was quite impressive considering this was both Morocco and North Africa’s first major poker tournament. Perhaps even more impressive is the fact that the prize pool offered players almost $2.5 million, with Frenchman Christophe Savary collecting the lion’s share as he pocketed €379,014 plus a $25,500 WPT Championship seat after winning the tournament.

Once again, WPT Marrakech organizers are going to throw in a $25,500 WPT Championship seat along with the top prize. In addition to this, they will be holding several side events starting with the €500 + €50 Deepstack Open on November 20th.

Plenty of poker pros are expected to be in attendance at Marrakech with last year’s field including Antonio Esfandiari, Huck Seed, Tony G, Chilipoker pro Liz Lieu, Fabrice Soulier, Annette Obrestad, Scott Montgomery, and Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier.

Chilipoker CEO Alexandre Dreyfus is very excited about this event as he said, “Marrakech is a magic and relaxing place so we are delighted to be bringing the WPT back to the mystical town in November.  We were so encouraged by turnout last year as well as the flawless organization and competitive hotel rates that, in 2010, we have built the Chilipoker Marrakech Festival around the prestigious WPT event.”

If you’re interested in competing in WPT Marrakech, you can download Chilipoker, create an account and start playing in their online qualifiers.
