"Kirsty Mullins Wins JHDSS Ladies Event!"
March 27, 2010

The Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series continues to roll on as the locals make the most of the opportunity to play some deep-stacked poker for budget buy-ins. Tonight was ladies night as 114 girls brightened up the Crown Poker Room for the $100 Ladies Event.

The girls enjoyed the 10,000-chip start banks and generous structures with many local celebrities in attendance while the rail was a little heavier than normal as the fellas did the right thing and railed their wives and girlfriends, many of which were taking to the felt for the first time.

On an exciting final table it was PokerNews Australasia Magazine Editor Kirsty Mullins who captured the title after a tense heads-up duel. After being down to less than the price of the small blind and all-in with 2 diams3 diams with three tables still to go, Kirsty managed to fight back into contention and played a strong final table to emerge victorious. The key hand saw Kirsty move all in preflop with Q clubsJ clubs against her opponent who made a big call with K clubs2 diams only for a jack to flop to give Kirsty a commanding chip advantage. A few hands later it was all over as Kirsty’s 9 diams3 spades was dominant against her short-stacked opponent’s 5 hearts3 diams. Kirsty picked up $2,519 for a fine tournament and is expected to be a favourite to don the cover of the next edition of the magazine!

Meanwhile the $230 Six-Handed Event wrapped up with tournament veteran Brian Hull adding another trophy to his collection with victory. Brian has enjoyed great success in the deep-stacked format over the years and added $8,650 to his back pocket for his efforts. Brian overcame Yann Pauchon heads-up, with Kim Peart finishing in 3rd place and Peter Pratis in 7th.

Finally, the intriguing $340 Accumulator Event is in full flight with Melbourne young gun Trung Tran emerging as the Day 1a chip leader with nearly 150,000 chips. Others in good shape include Billy Seri, Peter Aristidou, Billy Jordanou, Danny Mountt and James Broom. It’s not too late to take your shot at this event with Day 1b scheduled to kick off at 12:15pm tomorrow.
