For some reason (yoga?) I woke up bright and sparky at 3am this morning, told myself this was not normal, fought against it for another hour in bed and decided to get up and reg early. I ended up with a third in the FTP 55/25k for 4k and another win in the risk2Dupside invitational aka Stars 5r25a (warning: screenshot)..
After posting up my table layouts the other day I thought I'd put my HUD up since someone mentioned it, as well as some thoughts on HUD stats as they pertain to MTTs. My HUD is really basic, simply VPIP/PFR/3bet/fold to steal.
All I'm really trying to do is get a feel for the player type, some feel for their opening range and (depending on stacks) what sort of range I can profitably 3b/get it in with. I think that some people assume that someone with nitty stats will also have nitty shoving ranges when they get short, or that someone with loose stats will be shoving a short stack really wide. I think it's incorrect to assume this, and generally consider most regs to be shoving a roughly similar range and randoms to be shoving slightly tighter unless proven otherwise - out of the ordinary shoves (either very large or very light) are one of the main things that go in my player notes.
The threebet percentage isn't that relevant until you get a ton of stats, but after a while playing you start to find regs that never threebet light which is pretty useful to be aware of. I really like the fold to steal stat because it let's you know the players that are mostly likely to let you sneak through a light open when you're getting short, and the players who you should reconsider opening light on when they're in the blinds.
I know guys that have dozens of stats on their HUD but I really think this is unnecessary for MTTs, particularly stuff like cbet % which I never really understood anyway.. like surely some boards people are going to cbet a high % of the time regardless of their actual holding, and others they will rarely cbet without a really strong range, so to assume someone is bluffing a lot when they lead on JT8cc just because they have a high cbet % seems kinda flawed. Also multitabling doesn't really lend itself to sitting there and considering detailed player tendencies via stats anyway, so the simpler the better imo. Really most tourney responses are somewhat straightforward; I like to think of HUDs as something that helps you in the marginal spots rather than something to look at first before thinking.
