Hi guys
Well it's 6.30am here and I would be in bed were it not for the fact that I'm supposed to be dropping my car off for a service in an hour, so I figure I may as well punch out a little blog post since I made my first live FT in the $1100 turbo.
The turbo itself really seemed very unlike a turbo at all! The average stack was above 30bb almost the entire time, with 40 minute levels. It seems like most of the good online guys had bailed the event and I was fortunate enough to get some really soft tables where I just continually got gifted chips. I lost some flips toward the bubble and had 16bb when we made the money, but I coolered a bunch of people with better hands preflop and had 50bb by the time we got to nine-handed play.
Most people were really short and I managed to pick my spots well to be chip leader by the time we got four-handed (Peter Aristodou, Billy Jordannou, some random Italian fish and me), with a very decent pot where Peter Aristodou flatted my threebet in position with QJo and stacked off on Qxx when I had KK. We got into a ton of three bet battles and one spot where I fourbet jammed KQo for 35bb and got a fold out of him. Aristodou then lost most of his chips against the Italian guy who peeled KQo OOP twice on 9xxx and rivered a Q to beat Peter's K9o.
At this stage I was really mentally locking in a win since Aristodou and Jordannou were under 15bb and the fish was awful. However, Aristodou kept winning hand after hand and then had a huge double up with AA > QQ after busting out Billy, and suddenly I was on the shortstack. Peter opened the small blind and I jammed 15bb with A8o, he called with 99 and the board ran out x98A8 and I was that tired it took me a bit to realise I'd lost. I finished 3rd for 18.5k.
Overall I was really happy with how I played even though I was getting really tired towards the end of the tournament. This whole series has been super taxing for me, I feel like I drank and ate way too much over the last couple weeks, and will be looking forward to getting back into a decent grind schedule with a good diet and a ton more sleep! Most of the guys are going to ANZPT Adelaide next week, but I feel like I need the time off and will make Perth the next stop in late March.
Online has been going okay as well - I clocked up my first win on Stars this year in the 22 sixmax.
Thanks also to Dodds and dave798111 for being pesky drunken railtards (and teaching me the fine art of slowrolling in baccarat) I really appreciated it. Will write more when I'm not so tired.
