The ruling is correct, I would enforce the call once the bet amount is announced.

Verbal declarations are binding, I once enforced a player to call when he announced "if any of you push all in I am calling!".

There were four people in the hand, on the river and he was last to act, he also has the chip lead.

Mid position player pushes all in and I enforce the call from the last to act player, I then also sit him out for one orbit for angle shooting (influencing play with comments).

I think the above scenario can be debated more hotly than what occurred in OP.

Cool, so i'll add you to seabeast, grunter and the rest on my list of people to shove against if this ever happens to me (along with everyone else I guess since its pretty bad not to as disgusting as that is)

Ruling does suck for him but it's his own fault for saying call before the other guy bet any particular amount so no real sympathy.

Had a similar spot at treasury recently where my hand was ruled mucked even though the intention was to table it (card flipped face down as I tabled it) and villain was friends with the floor guy but I put myself in that situation so I had to live with it. This guy did the same. He made a mistake, put himself in the floors hands and now has to live with the consequences.

Alot of people have responded like this. I believe this shows tendencies of soft play/collusion so i think an automatic shove with the nuts in this spot is the fairest overall line.

Saying you will pretty much pick and choose who you f@#k over in this situation at your discretion creates a personal aspect to it.

Robot shove all day imo...

Which of course would incur a penalty for calling the river in position with the nuts.

+1 Poker isn't about show friends, it's about 'SHOWING ME THE MONEY'

After reading 9000 saying he said call whilst he noticed only some chips in the other players hand makes it seem he thought when he said bet, it was for just the chips in his hand. Big mistake to make and u will not be the last 1 to ever do it.

Props for the way u handled it 9000, especially for contributing to this thread.

I was neither here nor there on the ruling, but I do believe it to be correct. Ethically, not sure what i'd do. Really sucks for Michael the way it played out but hands tied etc.
+Respect. You are my hero Egan.
