"DaGrin_Reapr" continued a great run of Aussie results in the PokerStars Sunday Million. With Jaggy42 fresh off a huge score in the tournament, the Reaper took to the task, finishing in fourth place for a handy $97,490 pay-day. After coming into the final table fifth in chips, he found an early double up, but got into a big pot with eventual winner "acechipchase" who found an overpair against the Reapr's nines on a King high board. Still fourth place is a huge payday and yet another great Aussie result.
Elsewhere it was a quiet week in the online poker world with the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series in full swing down in Melbourne. It gave some of the lower-profile players a chance to shine and some of them rose to the challenge like ducks to water.
“Zas2kar” had a nice little week with an $8,918 score in Full Tilt Poker’s 30k Super Turbo. He ran good enough to claim second in that event, and added more tubro tourney glory when he final tabled the PokerStars $109 turbo, grabbing another $1,250 in the process.
Bradley “BaZa88” Bower rep’d it for Dubbo, with a second place finish in the PokerStars $8.80 rebuy. The $7,290 prize money is a massive jump in fortunes for BaZa88 who seems to ply his trade in the smaller stakes tournaments.
Duncan “Houndboy” McKinnon was no April Fool either. Houndboy grinded out some good results with a pair of seconds in the Full Tilt Poker $12,500 Guaranteed and the $15,000 Guaranteed on PokerStars taking his week over $6,171.
Overall the week was a pretty quiet one, but wouldn’t be complete without mentioning the breakthrough win of one of the online community’s most popular players. Ali “The Peppermint Hippo” Khalil, who posts on PokerNetwork as Kh4lil, broke through for his debut victory on the live scene.
Khalil beat a field of 51 that included Joe Hachem, Tino Lechich, Sam Youssef, Peter Aristidou, Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis and Jay “seabeast” Kinkade to claim the $35,700 winner’s cheque in the High Stakes Event of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series. Too bad for Khalil he couldn’t continue to run good, after getting corporate seats he spent extra cash returning to Sydney early to watch his Bulldogs get beaten down by the Rabbitohs on Monday Night Football!
The online action should pep up in the next week with PokerStars SCOOP series and FTOPS XVI both beginning to loom large on the horizon. It’s going to be a massive few weeks on the online card, so if you’re looking to pad your bankroll a bit, you should be satelliting into events right now. Both sites have a ton of options going.
