The month of November started off with major tournaments at the Macau Poker Cup Championships and APT Macau, followed by the PokerStars.net APPT Cebu, before the online poker scene produced some tremendous results for the PokerNetwork community. It was definitely a month for the young guns with several impressive performances, both live and online.
PokerNetwork continues to recognize the achievements of players in our community with the PokerNetwork Player of the Month awards for October.
It’s been a stellar few months for Tom “tollgate” Grigg. His hot streak of form started back in September when he finished second in the PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event, good for a NZ$107,900 score. Full of confidence, Tom carried his live form over to the virtual felt where he has been tearing it up during November to become the highest earning Australian for the month.
His month started with a pair of wins on PokerStars before November 7th became a day he will never forget. Tom finished 2nd in the Party Poker Monthly Million for a massive US$110,000 score, while pulling in close to US$15,000 in other results on that same day. All up, his month would total US$159,338 to see Tom jump into 3rd in the Australian online poker rankings.
We congratulate Tom on a wonderful month and the PokerNetwork Player of the Month award. After winning a side event at the APPT Sydney last year, we’re sure to see Tom feature prominently again this year.
At just 18 years of age, Liam O’Rourke would be one of the youngest PokerNetwork award winners, but he certainly epitomizes idea of a “young gun”.
Known as “RAWKZ” online in the PokerNetwork community, Liam first came into prominence with an impressive run in the ANZPT Gold Coast Main Event in August where his 3rd place finish netted him a novelty cheque worth $64,575.
However it is online where Liam has made a name for himself as his recent form has seen him climb up to 5th place in the Australian online poker rankings. A coveted “Triple Crown” in October was followed by a US$90,128 month in November that included 48 cashes, highlighted by a Party Poker High Rollers win worth US$27,500, victory in the PokerStars $55 Rebuy for US$13,571 and another win in the PokerStars $109 Rebuy for another US$18,552.
Liam is a super-talented player with many years of success ahead of him and we congratulate him on the PokerNetwork Young Gun of the Month award.
Congratulations to both Tom and Liam!
It seems like a familiar statement, but Daniel Neilson has once again extended his lead in the 2010 PokerNetwork Player of the Year award. His final table result at the APT Macau has seen him jump out to a record number of points. He’s going to be hard to beat for the Player of the Year title – it would require a herculean effort from someone at the APPT Sydney Grand Final to catch him!
Dale Marsland, Ricky Kroesen and Jonathan Karamalikis haven’t moved from their top four positions, while Michael Spilkin jumps into the top five following a final table in the first event of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series.
The ever-consistent Peter Aristidou is up to 12th after a solid JHDSS series, while the rest of the top 20 remains relatively unchanged. With some big movers expected in the final events of the 2010 year, all eyes will be on the PAR Leaderbaord to see who will take home the custom-built poker table and chip set, with thanks to our friends at Pocket Aces Over Kings.
