It’s been a good couple of weeks for the punters who have been making a bit of cheeky green at the expense of the books. But the bookies have come out fighting, tightening the screws and serving up a slate of tough numbers this weekend. Thankfully the guys in the PokerNetwork office love their jobs and are willing to put in the hard yards and the extra research to try to beat the best numbers the bookies can throw at you.
College Football (Saturday Morning)
Get your College Football betting started early this weekend. The Boise Broncos, the little team who could have really become public darlings, and it’s no wonder with their ability to seemingly cover any number that the books can put up. The Broncos are 7-2 against the spread as they look to earn style points to qualify for the BCS National Title. Of course that push still hangs in the balance and requires them to round out the season with a perfect record and have a few things go right for them as far as the other undefeated teams go – Oregon, Auburn and TCU.
This weekend the Broncos host the Fresno State Bulldogs on the Smurf Turf in a WAC Conference game. The opener was Boise-30.5 and was quickly knocked down to 29.5 before it’s slowly worked back to the 30.5 number again during the week. We think this number has to be shaded at least a few extra points towards Boise because the books know the money is coming in for the Broncos.
The Newcastle Jets look to have hit a purple patch of form in the A-League. We hope we’ve turned the corner in the local soccer league as well, after a rough start before picking a nice little winner on Gold Coast United last weekend. The Jets will host the visiting Wellington Phoenix on Saturday night who are fighting off a bad run of form. The Phoenix have dropped three of their past four games and spent most of the week in the headlines because they are fighting off the threat of bankruptcy.
We think that the bad run of form and the distractions during the week can’t bode well for the Phoenix, so we are all too happy to take Unibet up on their offer of the Newcastle Jets to win at $2.20.
NFL (Monday Morning)
A battle of basement dwelling teams is just the medicine needed to start the new work week well. The team formerly coached by Wade Phillips, the Dallas Cowboys have been trash. The Detroit Lions despite a season filled with a bit of optimism on the back of drafting Nebraska defensive star Ndamukong Suh also have to feel disappointed about the year. Both teams sit at 2-7. The Cowboys finally sparked up a bit after a coaching change blanking the Giants last weekend and all of a sudden the public cash is all over them like a rash.
We’re not buying them, in fact with the NFL’s crazy inconsistent results this season, we love the idea of the Cowboys coming out and serving up a flaming heap of dog mess and giving us a nice little winner on the Detroit Lions straight up at $3.35 on UniBet.
