"WSOP Main Event Day 2b is in the books"
July 12, 2010

Today was Day 2b of the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event with the last survivors from the day one flights coming together to play another four levels and make their way through one more day on the road to WSOP glory. Many would live to see another day, but for some it was the end of the dream.

Phil Ivey, David Baker, John Phan, Shannon Elizabeth, Kirk Morrison, Chris Ferguson, Layne Flack, Jeff Shulman, Ylon Schwartz, Michael Binger, Gavin Griffin, JC Tran and Doyle Brunson were amongst the big names that were unable to avoid elimination as roughly 1,350 players survived the day.

Several of the Australian great hopes also fell during day two action. Grant Levy fell when his pair, straight and flush draw failed to get there against an overpair, while the PokerNetwork Player of the Year leader Yann Pauchon was eliminated when his pocket kings fell to an opponent’s ace-king when an ace spiked on board. Eric Assadourian also failed to make it through the day.

Those to progress include Tim Marsters (150,200), Matthew Pearson (120,100), Kent Hunter (109,100), Dave Allan (95,500), Jai Kemp (83,600), Tyron Krost (70,800), Joel Dodds (31,700) and The Poker Star Amanda De Cesare (30,400).

Team APL also have eight players progressing through to day three action with Michael Doumani leading the way with 170,200. Others to make it through include George Apat, Jade Tornquist, Malcolm Shortland, Toby Hart, Aaron Peterson, Nick Filippopoulos and Phil Faux.

Other notable players who are towards the top end of the chip count leaderboard include Vanessa Selbst, Archie Karas, Alexander Kostritsyn, Phil Galfond and David Benyamine who will all enter day three in good shape.

Tomorrow is a rare day off from the WSOP. In fact, it’s the only rest day of the entire seven-week schedule. Play will resume on Monday when, for the first time, all of the players will be in the Rio at the same time as the 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event continues!
