Aussies Online: Republican Is Just Warming Up

Posted at 10:01 2010-08-03

They say that to be the best, you have to beat the best. If that’s the case, no-one can claim PokerNetwork poster Republican did it easy on the way to earning $119,735 in PokerStars Sunday Warm Up. Republican had to overcome the challenge of Alex “AJKHoosier” Kamberis heads up for the win. While it’s not quite the billions that his username namesake Warren Buffett has, Republican’s deal has earned him enough money to significantly boost his personal poker fortune.

Elsewhere the near misses were plentiful for PokerNetworkers. Steve “Stev0L_” Leonard reached the Sunday 500 final table but was rivered and eliminated in 7th place, good for a $15,649 score.

Three Aussies busted the PokerStars $50,000 Guaranteed Six-Max in quick succession. After getting deep in the tournament, Matthew “onmyVplates” Pearson (14th), Tim “Dufchips” Clarke (16th), and Grant “Grunter” Levy (17th) went out in a flurry to all secure the same $1,233 cash. Levy also got reasonably deep in the Stars $55 rebuy taking home $994 for a 22nd place finish.

Ben “cnt_crusher” Delaney went out in a frustrated 15th position for $2,761 in the Full Tilt Poker $200,000 Guaranteed rebuy. Delaney had been a good position to ship the tournament before running bad down the stretch. He was consoled somewhat with a 4th place finish in the PokerStars $215 Rebuy where he collected $16,439.

Tristan “Aliqua” Massang had every right to be frustrated as well, despite getting it done in the PokerStars $12,000 Guaranteed for $2,764. His day could have been huge after he busted both the PokerStars $20,000 and $10,000 Guaranteed tournaments just shy of the final table. Those tournaments almost added another $500 to the kitty, but it could have been more had been able to turn another pair of final tables.

Elsewhere Dominic “TheSpewtard” Coombe joined the queue of final table bubbles with an 11th in the Party Poker $100 Guaranteed High Roller. Gold Coast based “DaDigz” can have no complaints. He found the god-mode switch and flicked it on, cashing a fourth place in the PokerStars $10,000 Guaranteed Hyper Turbo for $1,555.

Looking beyond our shores and we should mention the incredible achievement of Jordan “Jymaster11” Young who claimed victory in both the Full Tilt 750k Guaranteed and the Sunday Brawl, both good for six-figure scores.
